What is A Retractable Screen Door?
A retractable screen door functions similarly to a regular screen door in that it allows fresh air into your home without letting the bugs in. What makes it superior is that it has a tension loaded spring that allows the screen to roll up on a tube in its own protective housing. This allows it to stay out of sight and mind whenever it’s not in use and it couldn’t be more easy to own with our intuitive install-it-yourself product model!

Every component of PrimAire® Retractable Screen Doors have been designed and manufactured to the most exacting standards, from the extruded aluminum, to the injection-molded, UV protected plastics.
Our design philosophy is that, “Form Follows Function.” Therefore, all of our parts employ crisp, clean lines. Tolerances are held tight so that functionality is smooth and solid. After all, one of PrimAire® Retractable Screen Doors main functions is to be unobtrusive and look like it is a part of the doorway.
The most important aspect of PrimAire® Retractable Screen Doors is durability. While design tolerances are tight, functional tolerances are very forgiving. This allows our door to continue to operate smoothly longer, as well as provide for ease of repair in the event of damage.
Technology:
From the way the separate pieces fit together to the way the screen attaches to the pull bar, we created a product that was intuitive to install and easy to repair. We were able to refine our design to compliment functionality and longevity with the help of plastics engineers and injection mold professionals.
With the help of plastics engineers from the automotive industry, we were able to refine our injection-molded designs, as well as select plastic properties to compliment functionality and longevity. All exposed parts are infused with anti-UV chemicals to prevent fading and cracking. In addition, internal pieces that are exposed to friction are made from a plastic that has self-lubricating properties. All aluminum extrusions are manufactured in the United States and powder-coated to provide a beautiful, long-lasting finish that will hold up to the elements. Particularly, the shape of the housing and pull bar are designed to fit together tightly so when the screen is retracted it has in essence a seal to keep out dust and bugs.
The screen itself is attached to the pull bar in a way similar to a window screen, allowing it to be repaired in the event of a run-in opposed to being replaced. That, with the flexibility from the spring tension and the fact that it’s not attached in the top and bottom tracks allows it to be much more resilient than other screen doors.
Real World Functionality:
Most retractable screen doors function well when they are newly installed. The true test of a great design, however, is how well it holds up to the rigors of daily use. With this in mind, the PrimAire® Retractable Screen Doors is designed to be resilient in the event of accidents and damage.
With over 15 years experience, over 10 different brands of retractable screen doors, and 1,000s of interactions with customers, we understand that mishaps happen. For instance, if a person or pet should happen to run into the retractable doorway, the first line of protection is that the full-length magnet latch will release and the screen will safely retract back into its housing. The second line of protection from damage is that the bar you pull across to latch the door is uniquely designed to safely come out of the top and bottom track without damaging the door or screen. If this happens, the bar can easily be re-inserted back into the top and bottom tracks restoring the door to full functionality. One of our most exciting features is our screen-to-pull bar attachment method. This allows anyone who is somewhat handy to repair or replace a screen with no proprietary parts.
Single Retractable:

Our single retractable screen solution works on most types of single hinge or dual panel sliding glass doors. The inside mount design allows us to be flexible in doorways where mounting on the outside isn't an option, as in cases of stucco or uneven trim.
Double Retractable:

Have a double hinged door or multi-panel slider with no good screen options? Our retractable screen solution is ideal for large openings such as those. With our patented, spring loaded catch system, it allows for ease of use as well as significant airflow into your home. (coming soon)
Our unique catch knob system for our double retractable screen is the leader and ultimate solution for your double door or multi-panel slider. The spring loaded mechanism automatically sets in place when you bring the fix side screen across to the middle, making it stationary, while the other side is fully operational from both directions. This allows easy entry into the home while in use. When finished, give the knob a twist and the fixed side of the screen retracts back into its protective housing.
How it works:
You let us know what type of doorway you have and send us measurements through our Product Purchase form. We custom cut and construct the door to the specifications provided and ship it to your door. From there all that’s left to do is attach it to your doorway and your ready to enjoy the fresh air!
